Odds are you’ve stumbled across this flying blog because you’re either a pilot or you want to be one. If you’re in search of flight training, and also happen to live in the Maryland area, I can help!
I’m an FAA certified flight instructor and advanced ground instructor based at Tipton Airport at Fort Meade, MD (KFME). I’m also a partner in a Cessna 182 based at Frederick, MD (KFDK), and I hold a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating.
I’m a part-time instructor.
But by that same token, I’m not a time builder. I’m not looking to escape to the airlines as soon as I hit the minimum hours they’re looking for. I do this because it’s fun!
I aim to be the kind of instructor who’s always available and accessible to answer a flying question, whether I’m your primary CFI or we’ve only flown together once.
My Flight Training Philosophy
I think flight training can (and should) be productive, cost-effective, and fun. That last one, fun, is something that gets forgotten about sometimes during an intense training program — but it’s extremely important because it drives the other two factors. When flight training is fun, you learn more, you’re more productive, and earning your pilot certificate or obtaining training costs less.
Some of the things I can help you with include:
- Earning your Private Pilot Certificate
- Earning your Commercial Pilot Certificate
- Mock checkrides
- Completing a Flight Review
- Flying for FAA WINGS Credit
- Getting comfortable with complex Baltimore/DC airspace, including the dreaded SFRA and FRZ
- Transitioning to a new aircraft (like a complex or high performance model).
- Technically Advanced Avionics Training (Garmin G1000, Aspen, Garmin GTN)
If I can’t provide you with the training you need, chances are I can recommend another highly qualified instructor in the area who can.
Where & What We’ll Fly
I instruct at 1World Aero at the Tipton Airport (KFME).
The Tipton airport is a great general aviation airport located just a few miles south of Baltimore-Washington International (BWI). The area’s complex airspace makes it a great training environment — if you can fly here, you can fly anywhere.
For students working on their private pilot certificate, 1World Aero has a well-maintained fleet of Socata TB-series aircraft. They’re stable, modern airplanes with great flying characteristics. For complex checkouts and commercial pilot training, there’s also a Piper Arrow on the line.
If you’re trying to decide where to do your flight training in the area, drop me a line. I’d be happy to give you a quick tour of the aircraft, Tipton airport, and 1World Aero’s offices.
Additionally, if you own an aircraft based in the area, I can provide instruction.
Finally, if you’re looking for simulator training, I can also instruct in V1 Aeronautics’ full-motion Redbird FMX AATD located in Hagerstown, MD (KHGR).
Flying isn’t cheap, but it doesn’t have to be insanely expensive either — I’ll work with you to keep the costs down.
One of the perks of a basic trainer like the Socata TB-9 is that operating costs are very low compared to the planes many other flight schools operate. For an up-to-date list of 1World Aero’s aircraft rental prices, click here.
I charge $45 per hour for flight and ground instruction, and I can accept payment via cash, check or credit card.
